Born on 01.01 1889 in Kesarevo near Veliko Turnovo, died on 02.05.1954 in Sofia. He was an important Bulgarian painter, writer and a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Science after the liberation. Brother of the ceramic artist Stojan Rainov. Studied art in 1908 in Sofia and later also studied philosophy until 1911 in Sofia as well.
During the World War One, he was a war correspondent from the Macedonian front. In this period, he produces numerous drawings and illustrations depicting the Macedonian battles and scenery.
After the war, he graduated from the Industrial Art School in Sofia and he begins to write and work as an editor in several magazines. He also works as a professor of Art history at the Bulgarian Art academy from 1927 until 1950. Rainov was a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Arts and Sciences from 1945.
