Born in Algiers, 23.10.1861; died in Marlotte, Seine-et-Marne, March 1932. Armand Point was very well-known French Symbolist painter and designer. He began his career painting the Algerian scenes of his youth, rendering Orientalist subjects—such as markets and musicians—with a distinctive, unaffected precision. In 1888 he went to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under Auguste Herst (b.1825) and Fernand Cormon. He exhibited at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1890. In 1893 he created an important Art group ‘Haute Claire’ near Fontainebleau, which was the center of the Symbolist movement and visited by most famous symbolists like Odilon Redon, Oscar Wilde, Stephane Mallarme and Stuart Merrill. His paintings can be found in Museum D’Orsay in Paris. Armand Point visited Macedonia during the Great War in 1916 he has produced the watercolor “Porteuse d’eau Florina” sold by the auction house Ader Remy, Paris, France on 05.12.2007, (lot number 52).
