French painter, illustrator, traveler and French Marine officer, born in 1880 in Vesoul France, died in1959 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He used the pseudonym Charles Millot. His life and work are given in the book “Gervese Peintre et Marin” by Jacques Schirmann. He visited Thessaloniki in 1916 on his way to the Dardanelles and Near East where he spent his service during the Great War. During his stay in Thessaloniki, he made several illustrations depicting the cultural diversities and different army officers in the streets of Thessaloniki. This work is titled “Scene de Rue de Salonique (Scene from a Salonica street) and is in the collection of Fine Art Museum of San Francisco.
