Carl Fahringer was a very well-known Austrian impressionist, landscape and animalist painter of the late 19th – first half of the 20th century. He studied at the Vienna Academy under Allemand and Eisenmenger and at the Academy of Munich under Marr. He traveled through Europe, Orient, Balkan, Africa, Java, Bali and Sumatra. In 1929-1945 he was Professor of the Vienna Academy. Fahringer was especially famous for his animalist paintings.
After completing his studies in Vienna, in 1901 Carl Fahringer traveled through Istria, Dalmatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Turkey and Romania. He got inspired from the Balkan pulsating oriental life. This inspiration had an impact on his painting style. Later, during his Munich studies, he laid the foundation to his impressionistic color intensive style of painting, He was particularly successful in reproduction of the colorful crowd of people on markets or in tropical areas. In 1922 he went from Holland over to Java, Sumatra and Bali.
