Born on 16th February 1887 in the village Shipka, Bulgaria, diеd on 17th January 1963 in Munich, Germany. Studied art in 1911 at the Art School in Sofia in the class of Prof. Ivan Mrkvicka. Specialized in art in Germany in the period 1925-27 and France 1926. He was an exceptionally productive artist, having more than 40 exhibitions. He painted mainly figurative composition and landscapes, among which the most famous ones frоm the Shipka region. His works can be found in National Gallery in Stara Zagora and Sofia.
Stanyo Stamatov was an official military painter during the First World War and traveled extensively through Macedonia in the period 1915 -1918. On January 2010 the fine art gallery Victoria in Sofia organized an exhibition of his war-time Macedonian watercolors. Stamatov visited Macedonia also during the Second World War, where he produced at least one painting – The church of Saint Naum, Ohrid 1942, sold by the auction house Victoria, Sofia. Few of the Macedonian watercolors are in teh collection of the author of this lexicon.
