Born on 17th September 1909 in village Razpopovci, died in 1991 in Sofia. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia, art of painting in 1931, in the class of Prof. Nikola Marinov. In the period 1931-47 he was a teacher in Elena, Plovdiv. From 1931 until 1976 he was Professor at the Academy of Arts in Sofia. He worked figurative compositions, landscapes, and historical scenes. He organized 4 individual exhibitions and took part in artistic exhibitions in Bulgaria. His paintings are in the Museum of Military History in Sofia and in many private collections. His works have always been popular and reproduced in many Bulgarian schoolbooks, calendars, and magazines.
Ivan Petrov visited Macedonia in the period of the Second World War, where he produced several oil paintings depicting the life of Macedonian farmers. One example of his work was painting called Macedonian Woman, sold by the auction house Victoria, Sofia, Bulgaria.
