Born on 3rd August 1862 in Leipzig, died on 15th August 1908 in Teheran. Worked as an illustrator for the Leipzig Illustrated Magazine. Student of Leipzig Art Academy in the class of Prof. Nieper, in 1884 student of Berlin Art Academy. In 1889 moved to Paris and started working as an illustrator for the Monde Illustre magazine until 1891. In 1893 moves to Dalmatia and the Balkans, where he worked as a contractor illustrator for English and German magazines. In 1905 he moves to Russia and Middle East, making illustration from the Russian-Japanese war.
In 1903 during the Krusevo uprising, Otto Gerlach was in Macedonia where he produced several illustrations for The Sphere magazine, edition 26 September 1903 and other magazines as well.
