Born in Herceg Novi, died in Belgrade. Anton Lukateli was Montenegrin painter, film scenarist and art teacher. He had Italian Origin, from a noble family Locatelli from Milan, who was moving along the Adriatic Coast and situated in Boka Kotor bay, helping the Serbs to defend against the Turks. When the World War 2 started, his mother was arrested by the Italian army in Mamula prison. Highly revolted by this act, he decides to change his family name to Lukateli and accept Serbian nationality. He was a member of the partisan movement since the beginning of the World War Two. Before and after the war he was the editor of “Illustrated Pobjeda” newspaper. After the war he worked as movie scenarist for Avala Film in Belgrade. One of the founders of the Montenegrin Society of Painters, the first Montenegrin Painter School and the Initial committee of the Painter Society of Yugoslavia in Zagreb in 1947.
Lukateli visited Macedonia in early 1950s, painting “Saint Naum Monastery in Ohrid 1952” (oil on canvas), which was sold by the auction house Madl’art, Belgrade in November 2010 (lot number 143).
