Born and died in Belgrade. He was an important Serbian painter from the so called “First Generation of Serbian Impressionists”. Upon advice of the painter Djordje Krstic, he started studying art at the Serbian Drawing and Painting School. Later he studied at the Munich Art Academy (1905-1909) in the class of prof. Ludwig Levc and Alexander von Wagner. He also attended the private school of Albert Asbe. Made study trips to Paris between 1920-30. He had exhibition in Paris in 1921 and the Salon of the French Painters and the Louvre pavilion in 1928 where he presented 7 works from South Serbia and Macedonia.
Ivanovic was a professor at the Art School in Belgrade. In the later years he focused exclusively to drawing and graphics. His career has been marked by his illness in 1923 when he had an operation on his right arm. Since then he has changed his technique of drawing, mainly relying in the elbow rather than arm movement.
The importance of Ljubomir Ivanovich for the Macedonian art heritage is not only his works but also his academic legacy. Namely he has been professor of some of the most famous Macedonian painters from the first generation, such as: Lj. Belogaski and L. Licenoski.
Some of his Macedonian drawings have been published in the book called “Drawings from Yugoslav Landscapes and Cityscapes” published in 1937, containing drawings from Skopje, Struga, Ohrid and other Macedonian cities.
