Born on 1st June 1886 in Slavonski Brod, died on 24th May 1954 in Zagreb. Regarded as one of the best Croatian artists from so-called “Munich School”. Studied art in Munich in 1905 and Paris (Academie de la Grande Chaumiere). In 1923, he became a professor at the fine art academy in Zagreb.
During the war Becich was a military painter for the French magazine “L’Illustration”. He lived in Bitola since 1913, where he worked as an art teacher. Later he joined the Serbian Army in 1914, with which he retreated through Albania in 1915. From Corfu, he moves to Paris and goes back in Macedonian Thessaloniki front as a war correspondent and illustrator for L’Illustration magazine. For his job, Becich painted war scenes from Thessaloniki, Kajmakcalan, Skopje etc.
