Born on 11.04.1885 in Panagyrishte, died on 10.09.1963 in Sofia. Graduated (1910) painting from the Industrial School of Arts, Sofia, in the class of Prof. Ivan Mrkvichka. Visited many museums in Italy and Germany. High School teacher in Plovdiv and Asenovgrad (until 1923), Professor (1926 till 1947) at the Art Academy in Sofia. During the Balkan wars was war painter in Macedonia where he created several drawings from battle scenes: “Train”, “Volunteers”, “Battle of Kumanovo”, “Train at Black river” which today are in the collection of the Military History Museum. Worked as illustrator of historical books and textbooks. Participated in the exhibition of the Society of South Bulgarian painters. Most of his works are in the Museum of Military History in Sofia, Sofia City Art Gallery, the city galleries in Plovdiv, Gabrovo, Strajitsa and elsewhere. Was awarded the title Honored Artist and the medal “Cyril and Methodius” in 1963.
One remarkable Macedonian painting of Simeon Velkov is the oil on canvas entitled “At the village well, village of Vitoljane, Macedonia, before the First World War” which is today in the art collection of City Art Gallery of Plovdiv.
