Born on 27-March -1875 in Bordeaux, died on 14-June-1947 in Paris. He is considered as one of the most important French painters from the “Fauvist” movement (“The wild ones”). He started is art career working and living with Henri Matisse and later in 1892 working with Gustave Moreau at the Paris School of Fine Arts. He grasped the critics attention exhibiting throughout 1905 with the major names of the French Fauvist School: Henry Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, Andre Derain, Raoul Dufy, Geоrges Braque, Louis Valtat, Jean Puy, etc. From 1907, he switched working from his studio in Paris and many European and North African trips. During one of his European trips, in 1933 Marquet visited Aegean Macedonia, whеre he painted at least the oil on canvas painting entitled “Le port de Salonique 1933” sold by the auction house Me Francis Briest, Drouot Montaigne, Paris, on 02.06.1989 for 25 780$.
